About Us/ᑲᑎᒐᒃᑭᑦ ᖁᕕᐊᓇᖅ

The Qimmiq aka Canadian Eskimo Dog is one of Canada's first and oldest indigenous breeds. They were brought from Siberia to North America by the Thule people 1,000 years ago, along with the Greenland Dog that is genetically identical.  The breed is currently threatened with extinction, with a 2008 estimate of only 300 purebred dogs. Although once used as the preferred method of transportation by Inuit in the Canadian Arctic, by the 1960s traditional working dog teams became increasingly rare in the North. Contributing factors to the breed's decline include the increasing popularity of snowmobiles for transportation and the spread of infectious canine diseases. Controversy surrounds the intentional destruction of a debated number of Inuit sled dogs between 1950 and 1970 by The Royal Canadian Mounted Police as well as recent efforts to increase the breed's population.

Our kennel is situated in Kneehill County in south eastern Alberta.  The dogs are not solely kennel dogs as they spend their evenings sitting on out couch or cuddling the kids.  During the day though they prefer to be outside.  Honestly they would much prefer to spend 24/7 outside, especially in the snow and cold.

We are proud members of our national club, The Canadian Eskimo Dog Club of Canada, and the regional club that is seeking recognition, The Canadian Eskimo Dog Club of North And Western Canada.

2019 & 2020 We are pleased to announce that we will be taking the correct steps to preserve this magnificent breed by working with ethical and reputable breeders all over the world as well as Inuit in Canada's north!! We are beyond excited!

Below is a sunset view from our side yard.  ON clear days you can see the rocky mountains!
